Programs

Fall 2024 - Winter 2025

The Tahoe High Altitude Rowing Center offers year-round programs for rowing skill development and performance training. We focus on getting more quality strokes, more quality miles into your rowing development - on land and in the water.

Fall and Winter Conditioning and Training

We are now in Tahoe’s off-season for rowing. An advantage of the Tahoe High-Altitude Rowing program is that due to our relatively short season (it has already snowed - twice - at Tahoe!), we excel at winter training and conditioning.

Everyone knows that you have to put in the miles over the winter on indoor rowing machines. And it’s a grind.

The average rower will struggle to get 10K meters per week. How do you do that effectively?

We “facilitate” the “grind” of winter training - filling a critical gap for competitive rowers - by not just adding more strokes, but rather quality strokes.

Following our training program will help you move from middle of the road rowing into the top tier for your age class. It’s as simple as following with our workouts. They’re fun, engaging, will introduce you to the RIGHT rowing concepts, terminology, and you will do more and more miles as a result. And that’s a huge edge and advantage you will have as you come into the spring rowing season.

Starting in October, we will have membership options for technical development as well as for indoor race training at the Golden State Indoor Rowing Championships in February.

Learn to Row, Rowing Development Camps and Clinics, and Row-Fit Classes

Learn-to-row and sculling development programs operate at Lake Forest's North Tahoe Aquatic Center. It is available for interested people from ages 14 to 99 (and beyond!). The program offers a safe and enjoyable way to try rowing for yourself.

The coaching staff are all USRowing certified, with over 200 years of combined rowing experience.  All equipment is included - for beginners to experienced racers. This program will teach you the basics to glide effortlessly and safely across the water with an emphasis on fun and safety.  For more experienced rowers, there are development opportunities to improve your technique and power through our Sculling Center.  And for all, there will be opportunities to train for, and enter, rowing races on Lake Tahoe this summer; a great opportunity for youth rowers in particular as they prepare for college.

We will be hosting High-Altitude rowing camps and clinics with world-class coaches. Prices will include coaching, seminars, lectures, cross-training at high altitude and room and board at substantially discounted rates to the notoriously high Tahoe Summer tourist season!

Row Tour Lake Tahoe With Us

Ever wanted to explore the beauty of Lake Tahoe from an open-water rowing shell?  We offer tours of Emerald Bay which include a USRowing coach, boats, and ample space to beach and lunch.

A Rowing Retreat on Emerald Bay - The Jewel of Tahoe

Lake Tahoe’s crown jewel – an oasis of shimmering greens, turquoise and blues against a strikingly beautiful mountain backdrop on the Lake’s west shore – this is Emerald Bay. Due to Lake Tahoe’s incredible clarity and depth, the colors of the lake are surreal, and Emerald Bay is the perfect place to take in the entirety of the scene.

Located along Lake Tahoe’s west shore, Emerald Bay State Park offers spectacular views of the blue-green water and features many activities such as camping, hiking, boating and swimming. The park was designated a National Natural Landmark for its brilliant panorama of mountain-building processes and glacier carved granite. The natural beauty, geology and history of this unique island make it one of the highlights of any visit to the Lake Tahoe area.

Where is Emerald Bay?

Emerald Bay is a short drive from South Lake Tahoe and can be accessed via Highway 89. It is the only inlet on the lake and is home to Lake Tahoe’s only island, Fannette Island. Emerald Bay is located within Emerald Bay State Park, just south of D.L. Bliss State Park, and spans 1,533 acres. Emerald Bay State Park is home to many landmarks, but most famously, the park is home to Vikingsholm Castle, a popular tourist destination rich in history and architecture.

Vikingsholm Castle is a 38-room mansion that is long considered as one of the finest and most incredible examples of Scandinavian architecture in the United States. Vikingsholm Castle was built in 1929 by Mrs. Lora Knight, and still holds some of its original features, symbolic of 11th century stone churches in southern Sweden. A National landmark, Vikingsholm is one mile downhill from Highway 89 and offers tours daily in the summer.
